Pathology and Food

One of the common terms used in Food Pathology is Food Eponyms which refers to disease pattern that resembles certain food items. These eponyms help a pathologist to identify complex pathological conditions. Mass production and distribution of food have a greater chance of contamination by foodborne microbes. The pathology of the processed food industry is earning profits by selling adulterated and taste addictive artificially flavored food which leads to eating disorders and lifestyle diseases. Anxiety over food as a result of starvation can lead to the progression of an eating disorder. Binge Eaters are not hungry all the time, although they have an urge to consume large quantities of food rapidly which is a symptom of Food insecurity and an Eating disorder. Food Allergy Testing is done by an allergist and the first step is the examination of medical history, followed by certain specific tests such as Skin prick test, Blood test, Oral food challenge, and Trial elimination diet. Food safety and quality are important aspects and the handling, preparation, and storage of food are important parameters to be taken care of.
